Over the years, whether for a bare boat charter or cruising on our own boat, upon arriving in a new port, one of the first things I like to do is learn where and when I can purchase locally grown produce, locally raised meats and locally caught fish. And usually it needs to be accessible via public transportation or a reasonable walk. Whether in Tonga, Croatia, the Caribbean or North America, farmers markets can be found and assuming you have a freezer and refrigerator on-board, there is good chance you can provision your boat with fewer canned and processed foods.

As we cruise from port to port, I’ll share with you what I discover and provide a recipe or two.
