Welcome to the sailing yacht New Morning's website!

If you've visited before and just want an update, see the blog at What's New?

This web site is for friends and family who wonder what we're doing, for those like us who dream of sailing to exotic lands (and islands) and those who are out sailing today and want to know who's coming along behind them!

Right now this site is mostly about building the boat. In the course of developing the design and the continuing search for the best solution to every design problem, we've benefitted from a number of web sites which document yacht design, equipment, experiences, etc. Russ has also corresponded with a number of cruisers who generously shared their time and experiences, many writing while underway. This site is our attempt to share what we've learned in hope that it will benefit others as well. In many cases we're writing for the benefit of friends and family who aren't immersed in yacht design and cruising so feel free to skip past those parts and get to the technical details if that's what you came to read.

Within this site you'll find the story of how Russ came to be building a custom boat designed by Chuck Paine, and a description of the design process with many of the design documents. There are also a number of photos of the boat under construction, the mockups that have been created along the way, and a basic description of the build process at each step. Clicking on a smaller photo will usually lead you to a larger photo or the full document.

Currently Lyman Morse is building the boat of our dreams in Thomaston, Maine. She will launch in the Spring of 2008 and be christened "New Morning".

Someday this site will be more about the journey, and less about the vehicle.

But we would not have gotten even this far without the help and input of a number of people.

Thanks for visiting!
