If you've visited before and just want an update, see the blog at What's New?

This web site is for friends and family who wonder what we're doing, for those like us who dream of sailing to exotic lands (and islands) and those who are out sailing today and want to know who's coming along behind them!

We spent four years actively planning, designing and then building New Morning, culminating in her launch in May of 2008. In the course of developing the design and the continuing search for the best solution to every design problem, we benefitted from a number of web sites which documented yacht design, equipment, experiences, etc. We also corresponded with a number of cruisers who generously shared their time and experiences, many writing while underway. This site is our attempt to share what we've learned in hope that it will benefit others as well.

Here is a brief summary of what you’ll find:

What’s New A sporadically updated blog commenting on where we are, what we’re doing, updates to the web site and anything else that seems worthy of sharing.

Where we’ve been Photos of where we’ve been, including major passages. These are arranged in reverse chronological order, most current first.

Locavore Fay’s guide to local provisioning, including some recipes!

About New Morning For a quick summary, see Just the Facts, then look at some really great pictures of the boat taken by Billy Black. In the Design section you’ll find the story of how we came to be building a custom boat designed by Chuck Paine, with a description of the design process and some of the design documents. The Systems section, not yet complete, describes the various systems and contains a fair amount of technical information. And finally the Construction section has a number of photos of the boat under construction, the mockups that have been created along the way, and a basic description of the build process. Clicking on a photo on an index page will lead you to a larger photo or occasionally to a document.

Help from our friends And finally, we would not have gotten even this far without the help and input of a number of people.
